Why a Ridgeback?
Have you really asked yourself this question? You may have answered, "They are big, beautiful, athletic dogs!" These may be true, but also keep in mind that you needed to answer: "I want a strong dog, physically and mentally. A dog that thinks about food 24 hours a day! A dog that is the perfect height for crotch/butt pokes! A dog whose hair will perfectly embed itself into your black fleece vest! Ridgebacks DO SHED! And if not trained will EAT THE COUCH, not just your shoes!"

DID YOU KNOW???? Ridgebacks are a SIGHTHOUND! That's right. While they are also good at using their nose (to poke you), they LOVE TO CHASE. No, not a ball, they aren't retrievers. They'll chase most anything that moves.....CATS, KIDS, BIRDS, PLASTIC BAGS. They must be leashed in public, or they may run in the road before you know it. Also, Ridgebacks see it as an INSULT to be kept outdoors or in a dog run, away from the family they were DESIGNED to protect and love.
